Introdution:

Acrylamide (or acrylic amide) is a chemical compound with the chemical formula C3H5NO. Its 

IUPAC name is prop**-enamide. It is a white odourless crystalline solid, soluble in water, ethanol, 

ether, and chloroform. Acrylamide is incompatible with acids, bases, oxidizing agents, iron, and 

iron salts. It decomposes non-thermally to form ammonia, and thermal decomposition produces 

carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and oxides of nitrogen.

Character:

As a type of white crystal,acrylamide,shorted as AM,is easily dissolved in water,carbinol,ethanol 

or propyl alcoho l. It can be dissolved in ethyl acetate and chloroform a little and in benzene a bi t. 

There are two active centers in its molecule,so it is reactive to sub-acidity and alkalescence.

Usage:

Mainly used for the production of water-soluble high polymers,it is widely applied in different 

industries,such as oil recovery,coal washing,paper,textile,sewage 

treatment,metallurgy,sugar,construction,pharmacy and agriculture,etc

Storage,transportation and notes:

Acrylamide is moderately toxic. Contact with the skin can cause poisoning,the symptoms of 

erythema,peeling,vertigo,movement dysfunction,limb weakness.

It is necessary to prevent it from any contact to human being and animals during storage and 

Transportation.

Acrylamide is a kind of unstable substance. Dampheat storage should be avoided. Solid

 acrylamide,under the conditions of ordinary temperature,should be stored not more than six 

months. With different level of conductivity and polymerization inhibitor,liquid acrylamide may 

be preferably stored from three days to three months. If there is no self polymerization,liquid 

acrylamide over storage life would still be usable.
