2.1 Amp USB charging that powers and recharges today's most
demanding devices, yet it's small enough to stash practically
anywhere. This compact power converter plugs into the cigarette
lighter of a car, RV, boat or other vehicle and transforms **-volt
DC battery power into ***-volt household AC electricity. The
Inverter **0 is ideal for space-conscious car interiors, with an
innovative flex-neck design lets you access hard-to-reach power
outlets with ease.
Car inverter is an electronic device that takes a DC and
converts it into an AC output. Since car batteries provide DC
voltage, and most consumer electronics work on AC, inverters are
useful for using laptops and other devices on the road. However,
there are some vital constraints to keep in mind whenever you use
an inverter in your car. Factors like the capacity of the car
battery, rated output of the alternator, and output wattage of the
inverter can all play a part in determining which devices can be
plugged in and used.
To prevent damage to the inverter and connected equipment, the
power inverter for car will shut down automatically if an overload
is detected at the inverter outlets. Additional overload protection
is provided by a replaceable **-amp automotive fuse. An automatic
low-battery shutdown feature prevents excessive battery drain,
ensuring that you'll always have sufficient power available to
start your vehicle. A dual-function audible alarm alerts you to an
overload condition or a low DC voltage condition (*0.5V or
less).
Also, most batteries in cars are of the "starting" type, as opposed
to the "deep cycle" type. A starting battery is intended to deliver
high current for a very short period of time - starting the motor.
The alternator then comes online, replenshes the battery's charge
level, and continues to run the various electrical devices of the
vehicle. If the alternator can not keep up with demand, then the
battery starts drawing down. A single good deep discharge of a
starting battery is enough to cause failure (not a guarantee of
failure, but a good probability of damage on some level, and
potentially an outright failure). I've killed several batteries
this way in my 4x4 trucks while using an electric winch - one good
hard pull on the winch, which can peak at over **0 amps of draw,
brings the battery down to about 9 volts....and the engine just
barely stays running. Shut the truck off several hours later, and
there isn't even enough charge to crank the engine over, nor will
the battery take a charge from an off board battery charger. I now
run two deep cycle batteries in parallel for the winch and other
high draw devices such as the inverter, and isolate them from the
starting battery.
A car inverter will take the *2 volts DC from your car; usually
from your cigarette lighter and turn it into **0 volts AC, which is
what you get out of your home power outlets. This allows you to
plug household electronics into your car. the most common would
probably be your laptop. Home UPS systems do the same thing, except
instead of using a car outlet they use a *2 volt battery. I used a
old home UPS system I had laying around that had a bad battery. (We
don't use the battery in this mod)
