The Benefits of Chamomile
Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is one of the oldest
favorites amongst garden herbs and its reputation as a medicinal
plant shows little signs of abatement. Extracts of the plant are
used in the form of ointments, lotions, vapor baths, and
inhalations. Chamomile is used as a carminative (aids digestion),
an anti-inflammatory, an antispasmodic, and an anti-infective. The
whole plant is odoriferous and of value as the herb itself is being
used in the manufacture of herb beers, and also for external
application in toothache, earache, and neuralgia. Chamomile Tea is
used as a remedy for hysterical and nervous affections in women and
is used also as a preventive and the sole certain remedy for
nightmare.
Chamomile is frequently added to skin cosmetics to
serve as an emollient and is often used to enhance the color of
blonde hair.
