Pharmacological properties of celandine
The celandine herb has a multifaceted pharmacological activity.
However, the main properties are antispasmodic,
choleretic and anti-inflammatory (bactericidal).
Celandine alkaloids have the greatest pharmacological activity.
Helidonin gives a pronounced analgesic and
calming effect, similar in action to poppy alkaloids - papaverine and morphine,
Helidonin also has an antispasmodic effect on smooth muscles, has hypotensive and bradycardic properties.
Homochelidonin, on the other hand, has an exciting-convulsive effect and has a strong local anesthetic effect.
The alkaloid protopin, contained in a plant in a fairly large amount, reduces the reactivity of the nervous system and increases the tone of smooth muscles.
For chelerythrine, a pronounced local irritating effect is characteristic.
Sanguinarine has an anticholinesterase effect (enhances intestinal peristalsis and saliva secretion),
