Its character is white or colorless granular crystal, specific density is 1.*2, melting point is *5.1 centigrade, easily efflorescent in dry air. Soluble in water but insoluble in alcohol. Mainly used as fire retardant for fabric, wood and paper as well as water-softening agent for boiler, dyestuff adjuvant, food additive, buffer of acidity. It is also used in pharmaceuticals, powder baking, electroplating, leather tanning and production of sodium pyrophosphate.
