Dragon fruit (or pitahaya) is a fruit of cactus species. Its scientific name is Hylocereus undatus, which belongs to a native tree lives in Mexico, Central and South America areas. The dragon fruit was brought into Vietnam by the French about **0 years ago and was mainly cultivated in the province of Binh Thuan, Long An and Tien Giang. In these, Binh Thuan is the province which has the largest output and Binh Thuan dragon fruit is the fourth product that The National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam Ministry of Science and Technology has decided to register the appellation of origin. From that, Binh Thuan dragon fruit - exclusive brand recognized on the world. 
 
The dragon fruits also have a high nutritional value including vitamin C, calcium, potassium and fiber. They are claimed to reduce cholesterol that is the cause of coronary heart disease. As it helps the digestive system and also prevents cancer, the fruit is considered by some as a health fruit.
Until recently, Vietnam was the only country in Asia producing dragon fruits on a commercial scale, exporting to Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Japan, USA and EU. So, Vietnams Dragon Fruit is not only popular in Vietnam but also other countries.
