The first GALA APPLES tree was one of many seedlings resulting from a cross between a Golden Delicious and a Kidd's Orange Red planted in New Zealand in the ***0s. Many sports of Gala have been selected, mostly for increased red color, including the popular Royal Gala apples.

  Gala apples are covered in a thin yellow to orange skin, highlighted with pink to red stripes that vary in hue dependent upon the apples maturity. Their dense flesh is creamy yellow and crisp, offering a mildly sweet flavor and flora aroma. Galas that are allowed to reach the peak of their sweetness on the tree will have a deeper red hue and a slightly sweeter flavor.

  With a mildly sweet flavor and long availability window, this apple is one of todays most popular varieties.Royal Gala apples have a thinner skin when compared with other popular apple varieties.
