| The major banana growing states are Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Assam, Karnataka, Kerala, Bihar,West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh,Orissa and Madhya Pradesh. In terms of area under cultivation Tamil Nadu ranks first, while in terms of production Maharashtra tops the list. Most of the banana is produced on a small scale basis in different production systems.
