ISPM**5 Certification (Heat Treatment) for wood packaging materials

Heat Treatment represents the treatment applied to the wood packaging material for heat treatment for a minimum of *6 degree Celsius (**3 degree Fahrenheit) for a minimum of *0 minutes. The Heat Treatment Program was developed in order to implement a quality control program for the official labelling of heat treated wood packaging material with the ISPM *5 official mark to signify compliance with the ISPM *5 standard. 

Wood packaging material made of unprocessed raw wood is recognized as a pathway for the introduction and spread of pests. To limit the entry and spread of quarantine pest through international trade, the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) adopted the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures Guidelines for Regulating Wood Packaging Material in International Trade (ISPM *5). 

ISPM *5 affects all wood packaging material (pallets, crates, dunnages, etc.) requiring that they be debarked and then heat treated or fumigated with methyl bromide and stamped or branded with a mark of compliance. This mark of compliance is colloquially known as the "wheat stamp". Products exempt from the ISPM *5 are made from alternative material, like paper, plastic or wood panel products (i.e. OSB, hardboard, and plywood).

Currently, all trading partners (countries) are adopting the ISPM*5 in their import regulations. The program ensures certified treatment and marking of wood packaging material for international trade, while maintaining traceability of the packaging material. In order to comply, the material must go through one or several of the approved treatment procedures and be stamped with an approved IPPC logo.

ISPM *5 compliance includes an IPPC certification symbol. It also includes the ISO two letter country code - AE in our stamp represents the 2 letter country code signifying United Arab Emirates followed by a unique certification number issued to Universal Pesticides. Inclusion of this certification number ensures that the wood packaging material can be traced back to the treatment provider.
