Relatively insoluble in water, it is easy to form solid hydrate with water at low temperature, which causes blockage of natural gas pipeline. At higher temperature, propane is affected by excess chlorine to form carbon tetrachloride and tetrachloroethylene cl2c = CCL2; in the gas phase, propane reacts with nitric acid to form a mixture of *-nitropropane ch3ch2ch2no2, *-nitropropane (CH3) 2chno2, nitroethane ch3ch2no2 and nitromethane ch3no2. Upper propane can be separated from oil field gas and cracking gas. It can be used as raw material for producing ethylene and propylene (C3H6) or as solvent in the refining industry; the mixture of propane, butane (C4H*0) and a small amount of ethane can be used as civil fuel after liquefaction, i.e. liquid fossil oil gas (LPG)
