1. Clean: please keep the equipment clean; clear the adhesive melting box regularly. Control the temperature of the adhesive melting box under **0 degrees when clearing it. Empty all remaining adhesive before adding new adhesive. Turn off the machine when not using it.

2. Safety: Because of the high running temperature, please wear protective clothes, eyeshade, and glove when working.

3. Other: This test result is given by our company test method and equipment. Different test method may cause the result a little difference. So in order not to cause unexpected loss, we suggest that you make a test before using the product.

1.Why use hot melt adhesives?

2.There are so many types of glues how do I choose the best one?

- Compatible with the surfaces to be bonded. To be compatible with the surface think about what the glue will actually touch – for example the item may be wood but if it is painted wood the glue will actually have to bond to paint, not wood.  

 

- Is strong enough under the range of exposure that the finished article may experience. The strength of the bond relates to required performance - heat, water, UV, stiffness etc.   

 

- Is easy enough to apply. Application is important to consider, for example you may need to slide fit a product into place so a contact adhesive may not be suitable.

 

3.What is charring of hot melt adhesives? Can this be avoided altogether? 

-Charring is the oxidation of hot melt adhesive at elevated temperatures due to prolonged and repeated heating. Charring is more pronounced at temperatures exceeding **0 Centigrade. Charred material will not dissolve in any solvent nor can it be remelted. Charred product will coke hoses and nozzles and damage the equipment.

 

-Charring is inherent and can only be reduced but not eliminated fully. Users are advised to remove from the machine, charred materials periodically before it accumulates and causes damage to the equipment.

 

-Since charring is temperature related, a new class of adhesives called cold melts/warm melts are being developed. These adhesives work typically at application temperatures that are lower by about *5C**0C as compared to normal hot melt adhesives.Lower application temperatures lessen the rate of charring.

 

-Antioxidants lower the tendency to charring but due to their high value increase the cost of formulated adhesive.

 

4.What are the limitations of hot melt adhesives?

Being thermoplastic in nature, hot melt adhesives have poor heat resistance. Adhesive bond weakens at elevated temperatures.

 

5.What is the significance of colour of hot melt adhesives?

The colour of the adhesive is due to the colour of the tackifier. Generally the better and stable grades of tackifiers have a lighter colour. The light colour of unpigmented adhesive would generally signify a better product.
