Quinoa was of great nutritional importance in pre-Columbian Andean civilizations,

Because of all these characteristics, quinoa is being considered a possible crop in NASA's Controlled Ecological Life Support System for long-duration human occupied spaceflights.[*8]

Quinoa is grown in the Andes mountains of South America and can be dated back to the ancient Incas.The Incas referred to the tiny, oval seeds as their sacred mother grains. And nutritionally, it is in all ways a superior grain, extremely high in protein, also niacin, iron, phosphorous, and potassium.The tiny seeds cook fast and are a good source of plant protein. Vegetarians and Fitness seekers appreciate it for its nutritional value. Quinoa contains all eight essential amino acids and a plenty of vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber. It is available in grain, flakes and flour form.Because of all these characteristics, quinoa is being considered a possible crop in NASA's Controlled Ecological Life Support System for long-duration human occupied spaceflights.
