Riboflavin, also known as vitamin B2, is an easily absorbed micronutrient. It is water soluble, which means it is not stored in the body. Riboflavin is found naturally in asparagus, bananas, okra, chard, cottage cheese, milk, yogurt, meat, eggs, and fish. In the body, riboflavin is primarily found as an integral component of the coenzymes, flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) and flavin ononucleotide (FMN). Like the other B vitamins, it plays a key role in energy metabolism, and is required for the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins.
