A transistor is a solid-state semiconductor device with various functions such as detector, rectifier, amplifier, switch, voltage regulator, and signal modulation. As a variable current switch, the transistor can control the output current based on the voltage. Unlike ordinary mechanical switches (e.g. Relay, switch), transistors use electrical signals to control their opening and closing, and the switching speed can be very fast, up to **0GHz or more in the laboratory.
