Austenitic stainless steels (e.g. grades 1.***1 and 1.***3) consist of chromium(****6%), nickel (***2%) and iron. Other alloying elements (e.g. molybdenum) may be added or modified according to the desired properties to produce derivative grades that are defined in the standards (e.g. 1.***4).
