Turmeric, a spice steeped in ancient Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian food, and medicine.
A tablespoon of ground turmeric offers *9 calories, nearly a gram of protein, 2 grams of fiber and 6 grams of carbohydrates. It contains minerals such as manganese, phosphorus, and potassium.

Turmeric in the flowing medicines:
(i) Ayurvedic medicine: treats inflammation. Alleged uses include treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, infection, cancer prevention and treatment.
(ii) Western medicine: currently being research on neurological diseases (such as Alzheimer's).
