AGITATED PRESSURE NUSTCHE FITER CUM DRYER   Agitated pressure nustche filter cum dryer is a recent innovation in the filtration technique. It is extensively used in dyes, paints, pesticides and fine chemical industries. Safety requirement and environmental concerns due to solvent evaporation lead to development of this type of filter, where the filtration and drying under vacuum pr pressure can be carried out in a closed vessel..   Filter Features:-   It consists of vessel with Dish ends and a perforated plate in between. A filter cloth is kept over the perforated plate. The entire vessel can be kept at desired temperature by having a limpet coil or jacket through which the heat transfer medium can be passed. The vessel can be made leak proof for vacuum or  pressure services:-   A multipurpose Agitator is the unique feature of this system. The agitator performs the following operations, by lowering it and by even direction of rotation.   Slurry contents can be kept fluidized till most of the mother liquor is filtered through. When filtration is over, the cake built develops a crack causing upsets in the vacuum operations. This does not allow for the removal of the last quantity of mother liquor left. The agitator can be lowered and can be used to press the cake. Washing of the cake can be performed in the same tank by reslurring the cake. Thus, the cake can be thoroughly washed, a feature, most uncommon in other filters. After Washing, filtration can be performed. The cake can the be discharged though the discharge port. This is done by slowly lowering the agitator and rotating it in such a way so as to bring all of the cake towards the discharge port.     Advantages:-   Vacuum and pressure filtration is possible. Inert gas atmosphere can be maintained. Very high solvent recovery is possible. Solvents are in a closed system. No let off of toxic solvent vapors in the atmosphere. Also, flammable solvents with or without inert gas ( nitrogen) can be handled safely. Solids are handled in closed system. No manual operation is involved. Thus, personnel safety is of high standard.
