Blue butterfly pea tea comes from the edible flowers of the Clitoria ternatea plant. Its also known as blue tea, blue butterfly pea flower tea, Asian pigeonwings, or Cordofan pea, and its part of the pea or legume family.

The butterfly pea plant is native to countries in Southeast Asia where its been used for quite some time. But its only gained popularity in the United States and other western countries in the last few years.
