About the biological buffer Tris, I believe many people have seen its vast power, skin care products, pharmaceutical intermediates, pharmaceutical excipients, buffers everywhere, but it also has an application that many people do not understand, today we will explore what role Tris plays in coatings.

Tris mainly plays the following four roles in the coating preparation process: pH regulator, cross-linking accelerator, polyester coating raw material and phase change core material. Here's how Tris plays these roles.

1. PH regulator

Tris is a weak base and its PKA is 8.1 at *5 ℃; According to the buffer theory, the effective buffer range of Tris buffer is between pH 7.0 and 9.2. The pH value of Tris base aqueous solution is about *0.5. Hydrochloric acid is usually added to adjust the pH value to the desired value

The buffer solution with this pH value can be obtained when the pH value is required.

2. Crosslinking accelerator

Tris, as a crosslinking promoter, can bridge the linear molecules, so that multiple linear molecules can be bonded and crosslinked to form a network structure. It is a substance that promotes or regulates the formation of covalent or ionic bonds between polymer molecular chains. Polyols are often used as diplomatic agents in the preparation of coatings.

3. Polyester coating materials

Polyester oligomer can be prepared by reaction of polyol, polybasic acid, catalyst and antioxidant, which can be used as coating composition.

4. Phase change core material

When the temperature reaches the phase transition temperature, the structure of polyol phase change materials will change from layered body centered structure to isotropic face centered structure. At the same time, the hydrogen bond between layers will break, and the molecules will change from crystalline state to amorphous state, releasing the bond energy.

The solid-solid phase change enthalpy of polyols is large, which is related to the number of hydroxyl groups in each molecule of polyols. The advantages of Tris are large phase change enthalpy, stable performance and long service life.
