oughWood® is the impregnation of wood with Armourtek, which is a high tech matrix compound of mineralized polymorphic preservatives (MPP) leaving the wood suitable for staining or painting as desired. Armourtek&#**9;s ToughWood® utilizes borates, as do some other companies, with one major exception; Armourtek&#**9;s unique chemical formulation and manufacturing process generates a Non-Leaching Borate [NLB] that permanently locks the preservative into the wood. It is the NLB factor that sets Armourtek well beyond other wood preservatives. All other preservatives without a borate-locking feature eventually leach from the wood, leaving it vulnerable to decomposition from microbes and insects - including the Formosan termite. Once absorbed into the wood with pressure treatment or applied topically, Armourtek treatment will not wash out or leach into the ground water or soil. ToughWood® treating makes wood products near impervious to moisture, insects, and fire. Armourtek is nontoxic and environmentally safe to humans (all mammals). There are varieties of Armourtek formulations that apply to different wood species and for insect control.
