Erard London Upright Art Case Piano Case Made by L.W Collmann Inner parts of piano were made by Pierre Erard London, while the outside case was designed and Decorated by Leonard William Collman. Leonard William Collmann was a very well known decorator who designed and Manufactured furniture of excellent quality in England. We was a pupil of Sydney Smirke R.A. (designer of the Carlton and the Conservative clubs), and was himself an excellent draughtsman. He carried out many decorations and furnishing of many public buildings, London clubs, and mansions of the Nobility and Gentry. His son was the Director of Decorations other Majesty at Windsor Castle. Collmanns designs were occasionally Gothic, but generally Classic. This is the only known piano designed by Mr. Leonard Williams Collman. Piano case is designed in a walnut case with carved and sculpted figures and faces depicting Greek mythology. One side of case having a six or seven headed dragon sculpture. Orion as well is also presented on this case. The design in full of this upright piano is exquisite to ones eyes. Records do show that L W Collman did indeed show a sculpted upright piano in the Exhibition of ***2 In London.
