The igniter receives the current through the ballast, momentarily raises the voltage and produces the spark to turn on the light. In other words, it initializes the plasmatic discharge by transferring the high-voltage pulse to the electrode. The ballast is an electric control, which enables the stable power supply to the igniter and the bulb, while initializing the arc and during the normal period of the arc.
