Enterobacteriaceae is sensitive to thiamphenicol, including Salmonellae, Escherichia, Typhoid Bacilli, and Paratyphoid Bacilli. In addition, Pasteurella, Streptococcus faecalis, Pneumococcus, Staphylococcus albus are sensitive to thiamphenicol. The compound is also active against Actinomycetes and Leptospira. Pharmacokinetics Thiamphenicol is well absorbed and distributed in all tissues. It is eliminated mainly as unchanged drug in the excreta through biliary and urinary mechanisms. [Drug Interactions] This compound has antagonistic action with macrolides and lincosamides antibiotics. It can influence the efficacy of ß-lactam antibiotics. (2) This compound has strong immunity suppression, which is about 6 times than chloramphenicol. (3) Long-term oral administration will induce a disorder of the digestive system, and/or vitamin deficiency. (4) The compound has embryo toxicity.
