Properities
Yellow or white translucent crystallold with garlicky odor, turns dark in color on exposure to light. Melting point at *4.1centigrade， Boiling point at **0centigrade, density at 1.*2g/cm3; it burns spontaneously in air with evolution of white smoke. Soluble in benzene, carbon bisulfide and chloroform slightly soluble in ether, insoluble in water. Both elementary phosphorus and its smoke are very otxic so that it must be stored in water and immersed in water for storage.
Usage
It can be used to make red phosphorus, phosphoric acid,
phosphorus pentoxide, phosphorus dichloride, phosphorus
pentasulfide, and other phosphorus compounds.
It is the raw materials
for organic phosphorus pesticide.
