Among abrasives, silicon carbide’s hardness is higher than corundum, and ranked below diamond, CBN and boron carbide. Raw materiasl are petroleum coke and quality silicon sand, appended with salt, then smelted in electric arc furnace. Mechanical strength is higher than corundum.
