ceramics, insecticides, heatresistant glass (borosilicate glass), glass fibers, porcelain enamels, boron chemicals, welding fluxes, flame retardants, fungus control, eyewash solutions, and electroplating, Taxidermy (preserving).

For hardening steel. as a tooling life extender, as a mix in flux, fireproofing fabrics (if you stick or mig weld it will stop those annoying little holes) and weatherproofing wood; as a preservative; manufacture of cements, crockery, porcelain, enamels, glass, borates, leather, carpets, hats, soaps, artificial gems; in nickeling baths; cosmetics; printing and dyeing, painting; photography; for impregnating wicks; electric condensers.

In the health area it is used as an eyewash, an astringent, as an antifungal where it gets rid of yeast infections and an antiviral, against cold sores.
