Description

Chiretta is reported to contain a yellow bitter acid, ophelic acid, two bitter glucosides, chiratin and amarogentin, gentiopicrin, two yellow crystalline phenols, a neutral yelow crystalline compound, and a new xanthone, swerchirin.

Amarogentin is one of the bitterest substances. The herbs contrains swertanone, swertenol, episwertinol, chiratenol, gammacer, taraxerol, oleanolic acid, ursolic acid, and many more compound which make it mother of herbs.

Swertia chtrayita is used as antipyretic, anthelminitic, antiperiodic, cathartic and in asthma and leucorrhoea in Ayurveda and as harsh, analeptic, stomachic, mitigate inflammation, relaxing to pregnant uterus and never ending fevers.
