Description

The peanut or groundnut (Arachis Hypogaea) is a species in the legume “bean” family.  After pollination, the fruit develop into a legume **7cm (1.2 – 2.8inchs) long containing 1 – 4 seeds which forces its way underground to mature.  It is produced in almost all the Northern states in Nigeria.  It is graded into three categories using different specifications.
It is edible, it is used in home but large quantities are used in the commercial manufacture of sandwiched, candy and bakery products.  Also groundnut can also be used in cosmetics, nitroglycerin, plastics, dyes and paints.  The oil content of groundnut in between ****9%.
