Dogfruit, Jengkol

Description

Dogfruit, or more popularly known as jengkol, is a pretty popular food in the western part of my country. Dog-fruit is native to South East Asia. It os a part of pea family and grows well in reddish soil. It is commonly consumed in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Myanmar.
Dogfruit is also called as jering, jarieng, blandingan and jingkol. Just like its exotic names, the taste of this bean is very distinguishable.
Dogfruit is usuall stewed, eaten as a lalapan, stir fried, cooked in curry or rendang (Indonesian spicy coconut-milk gravy).
