It is drawn through a die reducing the cross-sectional area of the bar, and giving it a smooth drawn finish. Depending on the shape of the die, the finished product can have a round, hexagonal, square, or flat cross section.
Cold drawn bars have greater size accuracy, straightness, and increased tensile and yield strength, as well as improved machinability.
CD ***8 is a low carbon steel with a medium manganese content. Has good case hardening properties, fair machinability and is excellent for cold bending and forming operations
CD ***5 bar is a medium carbon range steel that offers better mechanical property advantages over ***8 and other lower carbon steels. It has good heat treatment response and fair welding characteristic
CD ***5 bar machines well and provides good surface finish and brazing properties. It is difficult to weld and is not recommended for case hardening. It is generally used where mechanical properties can be sacrificed for machinability.
*2L*4 –*2L*4 is a standard resulfurized and rephosphorized grade carbon Steel, and a free machining steel. The added lead to the chemical composition provides improved machinability
CD ***4 is a high manganese, medium carbon resulfurized steel with free machining qualities and higher mechanical properties than the lower carbon steels
CD ***7 bar is a resulfurized steel with good machinability and surface finish, but not as good as the standard screw stocks. Its case hardening characteristics are excellent and it develops a superior core. It brazes satisfactorily but has only fair welding properties. It is more ductile than other steels of lower manganese and it cold forms well.
CD ***0/***2 alloy bar’s chromium content provides good hardness penetration, and the molybdenum imparts uniformity of hardness and high strength. This alloy responds well to heat treatment
Medium carbon nickel-chromium molybdenum like CD ***0, triple alloy steel that creates an excellent arrangement of ductility, toughness, and strength in the constructional alloy steels
CD ***0 is the most widely used carburizing alloy. The nickel content imparts good toughness and ductility, and the chromium and molybdenum increases hardness penetration and wearability.
E.T.D. **0 is produced from medium carbon ***0 series alloy steel. The heats are controlled to contain nitrogen in quantities normally associated with steel produced by the electric furnace process.
