The delicate and finely balanced accompaniments to essential oils are what we know as Hydrosols. The religiously organic standards of extraction and steam distillation of organically harvested and grown aromatic plants produce two complementary products for us: Plant essential oil and the Hydro-late (or Hydrosol). When the distillation process is underway, the ascending steam softens and liquefies the essential oil contents of the plant. This creates a temporary bonding of two absolutely opposite elementary values: water and oil, which do not gel well usually. During the subsequent cooling of this aromatic gas, the oil soluble components get separated out from the water however; the aromatic particles pass on some part of their qualities to the remaining water which is called Hydrosol.

 

 

For a few exceptions like Rose water, until very recent times, the Hydrosols were deemed as waste products of the essential oil extraction process. With more and more studies and research done on Hydrosols it has been revealed that the Hydrosols also possess the intelligent vibration inclinations of plants. They represent a softer and yet equally potent ethereal form of the aromatic substances, somewhat like English pharmacy compared with that of Homeopathy. Furthermore, they hold the water-soluble component(s) of plants. The Hydrosols do not contain the bitter matters and Tannic acids as in the essential oils that may cause irritations in phyto-aromatic therapy procedures.
