AMH Imports Ltd,. trading under the name Coirstore was formed in February ***5. We are importing coir matting products direct from the manufacturer into the UK, and therefore can offer very competitive rates for our products.
Our director has worked in the marquee industry for the past *8 years and is very familiar with the qualities of matting available. He has personally visited factories, mills and villages in India to see production/working facilities, and to source products of high quality but ethically produced.
We are currently dealing with a supplier that suits our directors ethos, of spreading the work, and therefore spreading the wealth. All the yarns used in the matting are produced through government mills and subject to stringent quality control. These yarns are then taken to co-operative society looms where the matting is produced on wooden, fully manual looms. Society looms are commonly situated in village areas where the coir production originated from. Over time these processes moved into factories, and as a result the people in the small villages lost their livelihoods.
In recent years the large factories have struggled due to labour problems, and as a result many villages have now formed co-operatives, putting their looms back into action and bringing the work back. This in turn brings financial benefit to the village community as a whole.
