Prewinkles have tiny long shells and can only be gotten from fresh and salt water mangrove forest in the Southern part of Nigeria, mainly the Ijaw speaking ethnic communities. Prewinkles are used as soup ingredients and they are known for their delicious taste. Prewinkles can only eaten when cooked. For construction industries prewinkle shells are also used in place of granites, when mixed with cement for casting in construction. Cosmetic manufacturers also use them for the production of some cosmetics.
