Reliable access control systems are crucial for buildings with secured areas, such as automated immigration control passages in airports or single person entrances in banks. The IEE Single Person Detector helps to prevent tailgating, piggybacking or any other situation in which unauthorized people try to gain access to a secured area. By integrating seamlessly into existing access control systems, it reduces staff costs and increases the overall efficiency of building and access security. Based on 3D MLI SensorTM technology, the Single Person Detector is a vision application that collects real-time distance images of people and objects by means of infrared reflection. An active, non-scanning light source emits amplitude modulated near infrared light. The phase difference between the light which is emitted by the LEDs and the light reflected by the persons and objects in the field of view is measured to create a real-time topographic image of the monitored area. Embedded algorithms process the data to trigger door locks or an alarm in case of an attempted security breach. The technology offers reliable data output even in challenging light and temperature conditions. The sensor has a self-diagnosis system and performs semi-automatic calibration.
